The Botolph Trio is a jazz ensemble – comprised of piano, bass and drums – in the tradition of the great trios of Bill Evans, Dave Brubeck, Vince Guaraldi, and many others. This I Dig is the first commercial album release by the trio, which has honed its repertoire around Austin for the past decade – from Mozart’s to the Elephant Room and many points in between. The trio plays jazz standards (ranging from Miles Davis and Charlie Parker to the great American songbook of Cole Porter and the Gershwin Brothers), mixing in modern and original compositions when the spirit moves us.
The lineup is John Groves on piano, Andrzej Kujawa on bass and John Traphagan on drums. All are regulars with other musical ensembles, ranging from musical theater and wedding dance-bands to the Gladiators Big Band. The album was engineered and produced by John Groves at TFK Studios in Austin, and mastered by Jerry Tubb at Terra Nova Mastering in Austin Texas.
In 2019 the Botolph Trio released its debut album, This I Dig – which is available wherever CDs, digital streaming audio are available.
